Training Course
What is Included?
The 15 week course is for sailors that already have 500nautical miles experience and includes training
in the following qualifications & skills -
Cruising Qualifications
RYA/ISA Day Skipper Practical
RYA/ISA Coastal Skipper Practical
RYA/ISA Yachtmaster Offshore Practical
RYA/ISA Shore Based Navigation courses to
Yachtmaster Offshore Theory (FETAC)
Dinghy / Keelboat Experience
It is expected that you will have some dinghy or keelboat experience to take the 15 week programme. Though if you have none you can come in the summer season to book in for some private tuition or we can recommend pre course training options. Or join the 20 week progamme.
Safety Qualifications are in an extra weeks training, making it 16 weeks
Full STCW95 Basic Skills Certificate, which includes
STCW95 Fire Fighting
STCW95Personal Survival Techniques
STCW95 Approved Elementary First Aid On Board
Ship Certificate
STCW95 Personal and Social Responsibilities
plus
RYA Module 1&2 VHF Certificate
and a wealth of engineering, crew management, galley and maintenance experience.

Mile Building -
The 2011/12 programme mile building is along the west coast of Ireland.
The qualifications and the experience you gain on this course,
gives you the opportunity to become a qualified and confident
Commercial Yachtmaster.

Accommodation throughout your
training period - even when at sea you still have your bunk
at The Birches;

Meals on non course days and night before

Breakfast while on shore-based training;
Yachtmaster Offshore exam fees for ISA
/ Dept of the Marine or RYA / MCA (approx €500 for both,
this covers the fees and expenses of the external examiner which
vary due to transport costs);
Sailing Wellies;
Membership RYA or ISA;
Medical Examination (which is required
for Commercial ticket).
