ISA & RYA Sailing CertificatesWest Cork Sailing and Powerboat centre

ISA Start Sailing     ISA & RYA Level 1          2 DAYS
Provides a brief taste of sailing for beginners.
A short introduction to the sport of sailing, including basic boat handling techniques and essential background knowledge. It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short introduction with the Basic Skills course (Level 2).

ISA Basic Skills        ISA & RYA Level 2        3 DAYS
Some experience or the Level 1 is required before taking this course.  By the end of this course the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor in light winds. In the majority of cases beginners would do this course and the Start Sailing (Level 1) above as one five day course.

ISA Learn to Sail    ISA & RYA Level 1 & 2     RUN OVER 5 DAYS
Start Sailing and Basic Skills brought together into a 5 day course, by the end of which you should be able to sail with an instructor in light winds.  Most newcomers to sailing will take this complete course, providing the skills to sail solo or with friends.

Improvers Clinic     RUN OVER 5 DAYS or 2 DAYS
Provides a fun stepping stone for the Level 2 sailor to fine tune and advance their sailing skills in preperation for Level 3 (this is a non certified course).

ISA Improving Techniques    ISA & RYA Level 3
RUN OVER 5 DAYS or 2 DAYS
On completion of this course you will have a competent, safe, practical approach to the sailing of small boats and will be capable of sailing and assuming seamanlike decisions in moderate conditions. Students starting this course will need to be of Level 2 ability and would normally have a seasons sailing between courses.

ISA Advanced Sailing Skills    ISA Level 4
For the advanced sailor.  A high level course required before becoming an ISA instructor and a fun course to learn how to control your dinghy in all conditions.  You get to sail a full range of different dinghies and learn some great new skills, from rudderless to tight circles.

Additional YOUTH CERTIFICATES

The ISA Level system does not really cater for children & youths.  So we have introduced our own Stage certificates - 1, 2 & 3.  This gives our young sailors a chance to achieve a certificate on their first visit to the centre and tives them the goal of a higher certificate to aim for next time.
The RYA system has a full range of Stages & Colour Badges.  Check out www.rya.co.uk for full details on the RYA junior scheme.
