Cruising area in and around our base in Adrigole is amazing for experience and skills building, as well as being a beautiful place to be. Bantry Bay alone has a the beautiful bays & marina of Bere Island, Glengarriff and it's lovely Garinish Island and sheltered anchorages, Whiddy Island and challenging tidal movement, Castletownbere and the fishing traffic. All great for training. Take a look at the cruising area.

Testimonials from
a few of the 2008 / 2009 Clients
What a 6 months it has been! It's amazing to think of just how little
I knew when I arrived in Adrigole in September and now look at me!
I really felt we were prepared for the shore-based exams at Christmas
and for the practical. Niall, Kuba & Simon are fantastic instructors
- very patient!!
Hope to see you soon.
Jen
I would like to thank you all very much for the highly professional
course you ran over the winter. It was a fantastic experience which
I would not have missed for the world (I just which I could do the
course again next year). The instructors that work at the centre
are very professional and have really helped me through the Yachtmaster
exams without making it feel like work. I hope to be back soon to
do further courses.
Best Wishes
Alex
I was looking for a complete career change when I stumbled across
West Cork Sailing on a Google search. I liked what I saw straight
away and after a few quick e-mails and phone calls to Gail, I signed
myself up. I'd done my level 1 dinghy cert way back about 12 years
ago, so I was a beginner once again when I arrived in September,
but I thoroughly enjoyed sailing their Feva fleet and got up to
level 3, which is when we started on the keel boats.
The keel boats bridged the gap between hooning along in little plastic
dinghies and sailing a yacht with the proper care, love and attention
it needs! So in these I started to learn how to sail properly, reading
the wind and so on. Kuba also made sure we knew our man overboard
drills upside down and back to front!
Then of course we graduated onto Jessy, the grown-up yacht, and
Simon and Niall prepared us thoroughly for the big final exam. So
thoroughly in fact, that on the day of the exam itself I wasn't
at all nervous and breezed through it. I couldn't believe when it
was all over with!
All in all, I had an absolutely fantastic 6 months in Adrigole,
and West Cork Sailing did a fantastic job in turning me from a complete
novice to someone who is happy and confident to sail anything that's
thrown at me.
Thanks again,
Kate
“I think completing the Yachtmaster course with West Cork
Sailing was one of the most enjoyable and exciting things I have
ever done. With a small course number you get a dedicated tuition
service and a real close knit feel to the whole centre. With additional
courses such as fire fighting and sea survival for example the course
teaches you so much more than how to sail a boat from A to B. I
also found myself in extremely challenging situations throughout,
from experiencing a storm at sea with force 10 winds and 30ft waves
to dealing with other people and personalities in close confines.
No day is ever the same and you really get to see what you’re
made of. I would recommend the course to anyone interested in sailing
or life at sea, be it as a career move or for your leisure. I certainly
enjoyed every minute of it and haven’t looked back and with
this recession crumbling all around us what better time to just
“Sail Away”.
Neil Gallagher,
Yachtmaster ’09.
